Turmeric a flavorsome spice considered as a queen of spices. We used it in our daily food, it is an important ingredient of Asian cuisine. It has a staining yellow-orange color with a peppery taste, which make it a unique spice among others. Talking about the substitutes for turmeric, then it is hard to find. Sadly there are many few spices that can mimic the flavor effect of turmeric. People usually used turmeric because of its ant-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Which make it a spice, combined with many health benefits. But if you are running out of turmeric powder and need it instantly, then you can use any alternate spice as a substitute.

Saffron which comes from the stamens of the saffron crocus. It has the same color effect as turmeric. So Saffron is a good substitute of turmeric in terms of color but not in taste. Although saffron is an expensive one. Use it if you already have it in your kitchen, otherwise consider any other alternative of turmeric.
Curry powder is a blend of several spices and primarily used in curry making, a delicious yellowish dish. Turmeric is one of the spices mixed in curry powder. So if you are lacking turmeric powder in your kitchen, then you can use it as a substitute. But not every time, as it has a more strong taste than simple turmeric. And its flavor is too strong for many other recipes that call for turmeric.
Turmeric belongs to ginger family Zingiberaceae and have some same health properties as ginger. You can use fresh ginger as a substitute to turmeric roots and dried ginger as a substitute to turmeric powder. If in any receipt turmeric were used for a health benefit than you can use ginger as an alternate but not in terms of taste and color.
Cumin can be used as a turmeric substitute in terms of taste. Basically, cumin is a pungent spice known for its strong bitter taste. So if you want to give your dish an aroma and spicy taste than you can surely use cumin as a substitute.
Fresh/ Dried Turmeric
Fresh or dried turmeric can be used as a substitute. When you don’t have turmeric in powder form then you can use fresh or dried turmeric as an alternate.
Annatto harvested from the seeds of achiote seeds, having a yellow golden color with an orange tint. So if you want to make a change or you don’t have turmeric in your kitchen then you can use annatto extract as a turmeric substitute. It will give you the same bright yellowish color as turmeric.
By combining roasted paprika with a mac can also be used as a substitute spice of turmeric. Roasted paprika will give a yellowish color, while mac will add a taste. And both are they work great as turmeric substitutes.
